Gideon's Sword

Format Post in Fiction / Novel BY Douglas Preston

Gideon Crew is a physicist, an actor, an outdoorsman, and oh yeah, a pathological liar and an accomplished art thief. Pretty interesting character. His father was killed in front of him when he was a child ostensibly because of treason. But alas, when Crew is all grown up, he learns that his father was not a traitor, but that he was killed to cover up a failed intelligence operation. That makes Gideon pretty mad, obviously and sets him off on sequence of thrilling escapades in his attempt to get revenge. But that just sets up what the story's all about. As he gets his revenge, he attracts the attention of this government contractor who hires Gideon to help save humanity from a secret weapon being smuggled out of China. It's a quick, entertaining read along the lines of another excellent thriller: Gods of Ruin: A Political Thriller, complete with political intrigue and conspiratorial what-ifs. Both books are deeper than the typical fluff thriller by Vince Flynn or Brad Thor. You will get a deeper gratification from these books than those. The protagonist makes the book and is very funny sometimes reading about his stories about acquiring information through unorthodox means. Get this book, you'll enjoy it.
